Substance Abuse Issues in Albany County
 
Negative Impact of the misuse of alcohol:
  • Underage Consumption
  • Over-Consumption (Binge Drinking)
  • DUIs


74% of all arrests in Albany County involve alcohol. (Evaluation of Alcohol Factors in Albany County Custodial Arrests)


58.2% of Albany County 12th graders reported that they used alcohol in the past 30 days; 43.2% reported binge drinking. (PNA, 2006)
 
39.2% of Albany County 10th graders reported that they used alcohol in the past 30 days;
29% reported binge drinking.

Wyoming ranks 4th in the nation for youth binge drinking (having more than 5 alcoholic beverages in a couple of hours) in the last month. (Wyoming’s First Lady’s Initiative)

In 2005, there were 208 admissions to IMH ER for alcohol intoxication. (IMH)

Average Blood Alcohol Level of persons admitted for acute alcohol intoxication was 0.22 (almost 3 times the legal driving limit of 0.08). (IMH)

      Join the Coalition to Prevent Substance Abuse.


      Meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of every month from 11:00 – 1:00 at the Laramie Police Department.
